Hoist (English - hoist) - a suspended lifting device with a manual or mechanical drive, consisting of movable and immovable blocks and based in their pulleys cable (lopar). According to the number of pulleys in both blocks there are two-, three-, four-, six- eight-, ten- and twelve-pulley hoists. Each pulley in the pull-up block provides a twofold gain in strength.

The hoist of domestic production is also called - hoist, and the hoist of imported production (Bulgarian, Polish, etc.) is called telpher.
